Synkinesis - unwanted facial movements.
More common that persistent paralysis of the face is over recovery of the nerve. Connections are made across the wrong branches - eg when you blink, the lip moves inadvertently. Equally, when you try to smile, a frown muscle inadvertently activate at the same time. This would distort the smile. Fortunately, synkinesis is treatable. However, surprisingly few people are aware that it can be treated!
